Reverend Ruby Rose Becker

Nov. 23, 1928 – May 10, 2006

A memorial service for the Rev. Ruby Rose Becker will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Unity Church of the Valley in Vacaville. The Rev. Vic Jenkins will officiate. The Rev. Becker died at her home in Vacaville on May 10, 2006. She was born on Nov. 23, 1928, in Redmond, Ore.

Becker was an associate minister at Unity Church of the Valley in Vacaville for the past nine years. She served as coordinator of the chaplaincy program and was very involved with her native American culture, facilitating a drumming circle at Unity. Ruby Rose graduated from San Jose State with a degree in psychology in 1979, and shortly thereafter, graduated from Ministerial School and became an ordained minister of the Science of Mind Church in San Jose. In the early 1980s, she was called to serve as minister of Unity Church in downtown San Francisco.

Ruby Rose was preceded in death by her mother, Doretta Nicholas Watrous; father, Alvin Becker; an infant child, Sean; and first husband, Frank McGuffey.

She is survived by her sister, Alvina Long; brothers, Jacob Alvin Becker and T.J. Alvin Becker; as well as her daughter, Dee; and son, Frank.

In the early 1950s, Ruby Rose and husband, Frank, moved to the Bay Area to raise their family. From this union she has five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Ruby Rose married a second time in 1969 to Pax Cheng, who had two young daughters, Charlotte and Karen. From this union, she has two grandchildren.

Ruby Becker Towner, Nadine Towner, Anna Mae Phelps

Ruby T. Davis, 206 S. Ewen, died Monday at Pioneer Memorial Hospital. She was 76.
Mrs. Davis was born May 18, 1906 at Buena Vista. She came to Central Oregon in 1907 with her parents, Jacob and Louise Becker. She and her first husband, Shelby Towner, established the Redmond Airport with a business associate. They also operated the Cinnabar Mine at Mallory Mountain and owned and operated the Towner Motor Co. in Prineville.
In 1966, she married Thomas Davis. They lived at the Cinnabar Mine for a time before returning to Prineville.
Survivors include: her husband, Thomas, a son, Shelby Towner Jr. of Mollala; two daughters, Nadine Lengele and Geraldine Jeannette Neal both of Prineville; a brother Alvin Becker of Red Bluff, Calif,; and two sisters, Sophia Gibson of Bend and Alice Hoffelmeir of LaGrande. She also leaves six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted today (Thursday) at 10 a.m. at Juniper Haven Cemetery with Pastor Phill Yonkers of our Savior’s Lutheran Church officiating. Arrangements were by the Prineville Funeral Home.

Born 1911 in Oklahoma. She was married to Alvin “Buzz” Becker in 1930 who was born in 1909. She was 16 when she was married. They had a daughter, Ruby Rose Becker, who was born in 1929. At the time of the 1930 census when this information was gathered they were living at 560 East Olney Avey, Bend, Deschutes, Oregon. Alvin was working at a logging camp. He was 21 years old. Her father was born in Kansas. Her mother was born in Tennessee.
